Roadsmith is pleased to announce the winner of our June Trike of the Month Award. This month’s award really has to be divided up a little bit because so many talented people were involved in its creation.
First and foremost, the award goes to the owners who conceived (and paid for) this beautiful piece of machinery. Dale and Connie Freeborg have been riding motorcycles together for more than 45 years, and Dale has over 61 years of riding experience under his belt. So it’s safe to say that this couple truly knew what they wanted when they started this process.
This particular story goes back to a Harley-Davidson Tri-Glide that the couple purchased several years ago. Like many others, they were Harley enthusiasts and very involved in the local HOG chapter where Dale is a Road Captain. When the Tri-Glide initially came out, they felt that this trike might be the logical progression for them as they continued to travel extensively and were looking for safety and comfort. Unfortunately, the Tri-Glide offered neither and Dale was soon back at the dealership trading in the Tri-Glide for the beautiful (2-wheel version) of the 2012 Roadglide Ultra you see here. Dale rode that bike as a two-wheeler for about a year but noticed that his riding partner, Connie, seemed to have less interest in joining him. It was then that they came to the conclusion that a 3-wheel version of the Roadglide might be the perfect answer.
Enter award winner #2. Matt Murphy at Central Motor Sports, in Mt. Pleasant, MI, spent HOURS (according to Dale) taking the couple through the various options available to them for triking their Roadglide. After hearing all of the information, the couple decided that the Roadsmith was, by far, the best bet and the conversion was started.
And finally, enter award winner #3. When discussing the paint scheme their new 3-wheeler would wear, the couple decided that a subtle, yet powerful, draped flag motif would suit their new ride perfectly. This task was completed, perfectly, by Central Motor Sports’ painter, Flyin Kolors. In the case of this beautiful flag design, the company could not be more aptly named.
Thanks to Dale, Connie, Matt Murphy and the folks at Central Motor Sports and Flyin Kolors for creating and sharing this incredible trike with us. We wish the new owners many safe and happy miles together!
